Las 7 Nuevas Maravillas del Mundo

Did you know that the search is on for the New 7 Wonders of the World. I was nominated but was disqualified because I'm a cat. How daft is that? I took it in good spirit and safe in the knowledge that if cats had been allowed I would have probably been a winner. The shortlist of 21 finalists are the Acropolis in Athens; the Alhambra in Granada, Spain; Angkor, Cambodia; Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico; Christ Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro; the Colosseum in Rome; Easter Island Statues, Chile; Eiffel Tower, Paris; Great Wall, China; Hagia Sofia, Istanbul; Kyomizu Temple, Kyoto, Japan; Kremlin/St. Basil, Moscow; Machu Picchu, Peru; Neuschwanstein Castle, Füssen, Germany; Petra, Jordan; Pyramids of Giza, Egypt; the Statue of Liberty, New York; Stonehenge, Amesbury, United Kingdom; Sydney Opera House, Australia; the Taj Mahal, Agra, India; and Timbuktu, Mali.
Guess what I voted for?
Factoid: The current Seven Wonders of the World are outdated. The search is on for defining the New 7 Wonders of the World. The initiative started in 2000. Experts initially considered 77 sites and short listed 21 finalists on January 1, 2006.
After a final 18 months of voting by the global public, the New 7 Wonders of the World will be announced during the Official Declaration ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal on 07.07.07 when the world will learn which of the Earth's treasures will stand in history alongside the Ancient 7 Wonders of the World.
